Objectives: 1. To produce proficiency in three components—language, literature, and composition—that will assure success in graduate study or a career. 2. To encourage enthusiasm for reading great works of literature from all time periods and places. 3. To cultivate the ability to apply basic principles of language, literature, and composition to contemporary life. 4.
