The Mission of the MSW Program is consistent with the University’s and School’s commitment to excellence in education, and emphasizes high academic standards. The program is characterized by a strong commitment to teaching, research, professional practice, and service to the community. It is dedicated to promoting social justice, equality, and respect for individual dignity, emphases which reflect the values of the social work profession. Through the creation of appropriate learner-centered environments, the MSW Program sensitizes students to the social and human realities that culminate in poverty and oppression for populations-at-risk, especially African Americans and rural residents in North Central Louisiana. By pursuing these learning environments, the MSW Program fulfills its mission to provide a sound, professional education which will prepare students for competent, autonomous practice with diverse groups at all system levels, in diverse agency settings, the community, state, nation, and the world.
